Next-generation LTE technology is chiefly responsible for the mobile revolution which is still powering innovation and economic growth worldwide. With the impending “FirstNet” roll-out, next generation LTE is on the verge of transforming the public safety and first responder communications capabilities required by local police, fire and EMTs as well as State and National agencies focused on security and emergency services.
Soon, next generation LTE will power the transformation underway in transportation systems that are required to fulfill on the promise of Autonomous Vehicles. The value of the Autonomous Vehicle is not derived from the, it is derived from the network. That’s why we are focused providing information services and industry events showcasing V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) connectivity, platforms and applications.
According to Jenny Lindqvist, Head of Intelligent Transportation Systems at Ericsson Industry & Society, “The same connectivity that transformed mobile devices is being embedded throughout the transport infrastructure – in vehicles, streetlights, road sensors, management systems, tollbooths and more.”
V2X is built on the assumption that vehicles, infrastructure elements, and other road users are location-aware and can communicate critical information to others around them.
It is no secret that transportation in cities is on the verge of large-scale transformation, in part through the efforts by vehicle manufacturers, their principal suppliers, and Federal agencies such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Vehicle-to-Everything communications and solutions enable the exchange of information between vehicles and much more — bicyclists and pedestrians; vehicles for collision avoidance, infrastructure for timing and prioritization, and the network (V2N) for real time traffic routing and other cloud travel services.
Deployment of V2X communications is expected to lead to intelligent transport systems that allow more efficient use of road infrastructure, better traffic management, and coordinated and safe autonomous vehicle operation.
“We expect 5G to become the worldwide dominating mobile communications standard of the next decade,” Dr Christoph Grote Senior Vice President – Electronics, BMW Group
With our background in wireless infrastructure, RFID and IoT, and our portfolio of media properties for municipal and city governments, we are in a unique position to showcase the innovation in V2X technology. Sign up to stay informed on all things V2X.
Our aim is to offer real business value by connecting business leaders with the information and experts to help them overcome their technology challenges.
